The final eleven chapters shift focus dramatically, moving away from stories of national deliverance and instead spotlighting the personal lives of our heroes, Yiftach and Shimshon. These accounts also involve the neighboring nations—Ammon in Yiftach’s story and the Plishtim in Shimshon’s—who both threaten to encroach upon Yisrael’s borders.

Then comes the chilling refrain: “In those days, there was no king in Yisrael; everyone did what was right in his own eyes.” Out of this darkness rise the harrowing accounts of Pesel Micha and Pilegesh B’Giv’ah. The stage is set for the long-awaited king.
